Hallsford Farm: our family farm, is situated just south of the Scottish Border in Northern Cumbria. This is an area known as the 'Border Reiver Country', where 400 years ago rustlers and outlaws terrorised the Anglo Scottish frontier.
Farming and border raiding were the principle sources of income. Today farming, by and large, is still the main activity.
We supply top quality beef, lamb and now pork from traditional breeds suited to their environment. Our production is not forced and as a result the product has real flavour. Our beef is hung for a minimum of three weeks and our lamb for 5 days. All our meat is skilfully cut and presented before being vacuum packed and labelled prior to despatch. Our animals are fed largely on grass, with some GM free concentrate when they are young and in the winter, barley to finish.
Our cattle are Beef Shorthorn, a native breed producing marbled beef. We also have a pedigree beef shorthorn herd www.hallsfordshorthorn.co.uk. At Hallsford our sheep are Llanwenogs, a rare breed from mid Wales. We also have our own Saddleback Sow and Boar pigs, and from time to time bring in weiners for finishings.
Hallsford is run with the help of our young children. To find out more about the farm, including the history, a map of the farm, and other articles, click on the icon of the farm on the left.
