Introduction:
Hallsford,
our family farm, is situated just south of the Scottish Border in Northern Cumbria. This is an area
known as the 'Border Reiver Country', where 400 years ago
rustlers and outlaws terrorised the Anglo Scottish
frontier.
Farming
and border raiding were the principle sources of income. Today
farming, by and large, is still the main activity.
We supply top quality beef, lamb
and now pork from traditional breeds suited to their
environment. Our production is not forced and as a result the
product has real flavour. Our beef is hung for a minimum of three weeks and
our lamb for 5 days. All our meat is skilfully cut and
presented before being vacuum packed and labelled prior to
despatch. Our animals are fed largely on grass, with some GM
free concentrate when they are young and in the winter, barley to finish.
Hallsford Farm Produce is a joint venture between two local
farms. At Hallsford, the Tomkins family farm
180 acres. At New Dorreyfield, the Beattie family farm
around 250 acres. Both are, what I would describe as, 'half way up the hill'
extensive farms.
Our cattle
are Beef Shorthorn, a native breed producing marbled
beef. To learn more click on the bull picture to the left.
At Hallsford our sheep are Llanwenogs, a rare breed from mid Wales.
Again, to learn more

ancient breed from the Lake District. These come from New
Dorreyfield. Both farms have Rare Breed Saddleback Pigs.
Hallsford is run with the help of our young children, Catherine, Matthew
and Emma. To find out more about the farm, including the
history, a map of the farm, and other articles, click on the icon of the farm on the left.
